Causey Fregia’s husband had left her but she showed him a positive pregnancy test and sonogram, claiming to be pregnant with his child. However, he did not believe her and moved out of state.  Given that she had a hysterectomy years before, his disbelief was understandable. 

Causey Fregia went to the local women’s hospital and found Perez, who had just finished an obstetrics appointment. Causey Fregia offered Perez baby clothes and supplies, and Perez got in a stranger’s car. One of Causey Fregia’s young children was also in the car at that time.  Causey Fregia brought the pregnant woman to her home where she beat the woman to death.  All three of Causey Fregia’s young children (ages 6, 8, and 10) were home at that time. 

Causey Fregia’s own children turned her in, 4 years later.  They had witnessed the crime when they were ages 6, 8, and 10 years old.  One child reported riding in the car with Causey Fregia when she dumped and burned Perez’ body. 

Perez’ corpse and that of her infant were burned and then buried on land owned by the Causey Fregia family. 

Causey Fregia pled guilty.
