Coy searched on Facebook to find a woman in her 3rd trimester, apparently contacting Jamie Stice and another woman.  

Coy convinced Stice to come to her home in order to go shopping for baby supplies. 

Coy used a taser to subdue Stice, bound her writs, then performed a crude caesarean section, cutting out the infant plus the placenta with Stice’s uterus and ovaries still attached. 

Coy drove the house of a friend, where she announced that she had given birth; the friend called emergency services. 

Coy initially claimed that the child was hers, but physicians were able to assess that she had not just given birth. She then claimed to have purchased the newborn. 

During the investigation, the police found that Coy had made contact with 2 pregnant women via Facebook. They found one, but could not locate Stice. 

During the court hearing, it was learned that Coy had asked both of her teenagers to help her and when they refused, she said she was joking.  

During the trial, it was reported that Coy had falsely claimed pregnancies in the past, and may have stalked other pregnant women in the past. 

Coy pled guilty but mentally ill, in order to avoid being sentenced to death.
