Cynthia N. found Hernandez via social media, and offered the pregnant woman baby supplies if she came to Cynthia N,’s house. Instead, she was killed and her fetus removed. However, due to Hernandez’ suffocation, the fetus did not survive.  

Cynthia N. wrapped Hernandez’ corpse in plastic and stuck it under a bed in her house. She then took the deceased infant, claiming to have experienced a stillbirth.   Staff ascertained that she had not given birth.  

While under investigation, Cynthia N. was allowed to bury the baby, who was later disinterred to obtain DNA for the trial.  She maintained the ruse on social media, reporting that she had ‘lost’ her child.
