Clarisa Figueroa wanted an infant, but since she had undergone a tubal ligation years prior, this was not an option. Instead, she convinced her adult daughter help her obtain one by murder. They used social media as a way of finding a woman at the end stage of pregnancy, and they offered free baby clothes to Ochoa-Lopez.  The young woman came to their home where she was strangled before her fetus was cut from her body. 

Clarisa then contacted the authorities, claiming that she had just given birth but  ‘her’ newborn wasn’t breathing.  She and Ochoa-Lopez’s child were taken to the hospital, where it was clear that Clarisa had not recently experienced child birth. 

After Ochoa-Lopez was reported missing, the authorities were able to link her to the Figueroa’s due to their social media interactions, and were then able to used DNA to determine that Clarisa was not related to the infant.  Despite the on-going investigation, Clarisa continued to pretend that she had given birth, and even set up a social media account to take donations for the baby’s hospitalization. 

Her boyfriend, Piotre Bobak reported stuffed Ochoa-Lopez’s corpse in a garbage can and he was later convicted of hiding the murder. 

Clarisa’s adult son had died of natural causes and various media sites indicated that she planned to give the stolen infant the same name.
