Crews and her boyfriend Hoehn had a rocky relationship. When he left her, she told him that she was pregnant and even mailed him a phony pregnancy test and an old sonogram, in order to convince him to return. 

In order to make good on her false claim, Crews invited her pregnant neighbor over to visit. She killed Greywind and cut her fetus out of her body.  

 Hoehn, was charged with covering up the crime.   

Crews initially claimed that Greywind had agreed to give Crews the newborn, stating that she had instructed Greywind on a way of inducing labor.  She claimed that Greywind arrived a few days after this conversation, to give her the newborn. 

Hoehn  told the police that he arrived home to find Crews cleaning up blood, claiming to have just given birth. According to Hoehn, Crews directed him to get rid of garbage bags of bloody towels from that birth.  Crews, however, reported that Hoehn responded to seeing Greywind’s corpse by strangling her, and saying “if she wasn’t dead before, she is now”. 

Both Crews and Hoehn were convicted.
