Morales Rodriguez spotted Ramirez Cruz, who was in her 3rd trimester, at the Latino community center and offered her a ride. She then took the pregnant woman to her own house, beat her in the head with a bat and choked Ramirez Cruz until the pregnant woman lapsed into unconsciousness. She then duct taped the woman’s nose and mouth to prevent her from breathing, before performing a crude caesarean section.  The infant was dead due to his mother’s asphyxiation.

Morales Rodriguez called for emergency services, stating that her newborn wasn’t breathing.  Eventually, there was an investigation and autopsy, which indicated that the child had not experienced a vaginal birth.  When her house was searched, police found Ramirez-Cruz’ corpse.

Morales Rodriguez confessed to the police that she killed Ramirez Cruz and cut out her full-term fetus.  She reported that she wanted to “give her boyfriend a son”.

At the trial, it was noted that Morales Rodriguez had falsely claimed to have had 2 miscarriages.
