Roberts told her family that she was pregnant with twins, took pre-natal vitamins, and attended birthing classes. However, when her boyfriend decided to go with her to an obstetrics appointment, the staff denied that she had an appointment, which she explained away to him as a documentation mistake.

Roberts used the internet site Craigslist to locate a woman at the end of her third trimester, by offering baby clothes. Snively went to Roberts’ home, expecting to pick up the offered supplies. Instead, she was bludgeoned and her infant cut out of her via a crude caesarean section.

Roberts called for emergency assistance from her own, claiming that she had given birth but the newborn wasn’t breathing.  At the hospital, the medical staff could not revive the infant.  The staff also noted that Roberts had not given birth in the recent past.  The physicians ordered a psychological evaluation at the hospital, and the psychiatrist did not find evidence that Roberts was psychotic. When Roberts and her boyfriend were alone for a few minutes, she began to tell him that she had done something ‘horrible’ and told him not to allow the police to search their home.

However, when the hospital call the police, Roberts’ boyfriend consented to the search, and suggested the crawlspace as a potential site to check; Snively’s corpse was found where he had guessed.  There were bite marks on her arm from Roberts.  Snively still held strands of Roberts’ hair in her hand, suggesting that she fought her attacker.

Police indicated that Roberts may have contacted numerous local pregnant women with her ploy. After the story of Snively’s murder was announced in the news, the police received several phone calls from women claiming that they had been in contact with Roberts.
