Toruga had been diagnosed with Schizophrenia but had ceased taking her prescribed medication prior to her plan to kill Angelique Robledo. She visited Robledo, an acquaintance, and set fire to victim’s closet. She had 2 butcher knives, a pair of scissors plus baby diapers and clothes.
At her arrest, Toruga admitted to police that she planned on killing Robledo and taking her fetus.
Toruga pled guilty by reason of insanity for arson and was committed to a psychiatric facility. She was released in 2019.
